Dear friend and supporter:

I want you to be one of the first to know that I have accepted a new job and a new challenge. Next month, I will become the Sustainability Director for Houston, Texas – the fourth largest city in the nation.

I am overjoyed to have the opportunity to work directly with newly elected Mayor Annise Parker and contribute to a cleaner environment which is, of course, not just a local issue. Sadly, this also requires me to move from our wonderful city and end my campaign for District 8 Supervisor.

As you know, a central focus of my work and campaign is to make our world a greener, more sustainable place. I am deeply appreciative of the hard work and commitment of the many supporters, volunteers and donors who have contributed to my campaign.

We waged a strong campaign - with over 35 house parties, hundreds of contributions, and dozens of precincts already walked. We set a tone for independence and reform by limiting contributions to $150. I am proud of our campaign and believe we had what it takes to cross the finish line.

However, when this opportunity arose, I weighed the decision carefully, and made the choice that I felt was best to fight for the issues for which I care most deeply. Those causes are not specific to just San Francisco - a clean environment; a strong, green economy for families; quality public education for children, and, of course, equal rights for all.

Once again, I want you to know how grateful I am for your support. You represent the great spirit of San Francisco and I will always be in your debt.

Very truly yours,

Laura Spanjian
